Dada tooth fairy –

Travels very light these days ~

A silent payment.

Robots, Heroes, Tanks –
Carnage unprecedented ~
Small Man’s room, at rest.

Her red wine stained lips –
Bringing back old memories ~
Have you been feeding?

Favourite bootleg –
Well worn tape ~ lost long ago ~
Immortal online.

Small Man’s first school day –
Shirt collar stiff on his neck ~
Teacher half my age.

New shop: sells marbles –
Nervous look ~ a pioneer ~
So much passed since then.

Mark the outlier –
Reading, learning, improving –
He’s biding his time.

Mark the outlier, not the
monkeys, rioting outside.

Cigarettes ~ moments –

Blue smoke rising, time slowing ~

Now stored as rations.

Questions, more questions –
With Small Man on the swing-chair –
but why Dada? Why?

Some twenty questions later –
The wiser for answering.

His cold thin fingers –
Homework ~ then, paint small soldiers –
These little heroes.
