Somme

Trench geology –
Note before I go over ~
The layers of time.

Old wolf, in the night –
His head, resting on his limbs ~
The rain, pouring down.

Evening birdsong –
Not those of my native land ~
Familiar now.

Virginja contrails –
Half moon cut with blue and white ~
Dinosaurs fly through.

Goodbyes at airports –
Some folk loud, some not so much ~
Helloes are better.

The wind in the trees –
Unusually hot June ~
Pleasant reminders.
