Fighter

Ten Haiku for Fighter Pilots.

Fighter

The ‘Joy of Action’ –
and the ‘Passion of the Hunt’ –
Foes falling ~ blue skies.

Counter-intuitive

The race for faster –
but throttle back, close the curve –
This gives you the shot.

Crash-land

I am going down –
On fire ~ I know I’ve seconds –
Smiling ~ grass in wind.

JFDI

Ach! Ground based thinking –
Don’t direct us, we know best –
Elite ~ let us work.

Worth it

We Scramble, scramble –
Still half-pissed ~ the strength in Youth –
Her lavender dawn.

Ace

I am recycled –
again and again ~ Expert –
Pride ~ but with no choice.

Portrait

My notched walking stick –
Shows my victories ~ counted –
Prefer my leg, back.

Effortless

At night, so wired now –
~they think it’s automatic –
So little, they know.

Un Rêve

On these TV shows…
A dying breed, proud stories –
They miss fallen friends.

Gallant

The dogfight – intense –
My best flying ~ sharp bright light –
Jesus – brings me home.

  1. Right from the first three lines, many of these stanzas were so perfect, they gave me goose bumps. I think becuase they touch, very simply, on truth – they’re so honest, so this-is-how-it-was, really was. The ending was masterful. I really enjoyed the haiku style, with each stanza titled. Wonderful!

  2. When I started reading on-line poetry a while back I didn’t much care for haikus… I basically didn’t understand them, and – even though I’ve got my head around them more these days – I still find them a bit… Short? Incomplete? This structure, you building up a whole row of them around the same theme, I liked! As well as the poems themselves, of course.

  3. love it.

    Excellent!
    Happy Holidays….
